What to expect after nasal surgery

Bleeding

It is normal to have some minor bleeding for the first 1-2 days after an oral biopsy. If steady bleeding occurs after surgery, pinch or apply pressure on the area with your fingers and a piece of paper towel for 5-10 minutes. If pressure fails to stop steady bleeding then you should call our office or the on call doctor.

Eating

Generally, a softer bland diet will be easier to eat. There no foods that will prevent healing.

Fever

While infections are rare with oral biopsies, they can occur. if you have a fever, or increasing pain and swelling contact Dr. Mostachfi.

Pain

You should expect some pain for the first five days after surgery. Extra-strength Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, or Aleve is often all that is needed for mild post-operative discomfort. If this is not sufficient to control the pain, you should contact Dr. Mostachfi for a prescription.

Care

Oral biopsies to not require any special care, beyond good oral hygiene. Alcohol based mouth washes may hurt. A simple salt water rinse would be preferable.
